If I were going to write descriptive text, it'd go here.

Æ antoninianus, Gallienus, Rome, Göbl 603a

GALLIENVS AVG, Radiate head right | PAX AVG, Pax standing left, raising branch in right hand and holding long transverse scepter in left. Δ in left field.

Pax, the goddess of Peace, was one of the most-minted reverses during this reign, and, I think, actual peace one of the most-desired and least-seen conditions.

Æ4, Theodosius II, uncertain mint, uncertain catalog number

[...] AVG, Helmeted cuirassed bust 3/4 facing, holding shield | [CONCORDIA AVGG], Constantinopolis seated facing, holding spear and Victory.

Flavius Theodosius son of Arcadius, and became emperor in 408, succeeding his father while still an infant. Like his father, he contributed little to the defense against barbarians, but he supported his sister Aelia Pulcheria who sought to dominate religious councils and sponsored the collection of all new laws since the time of Constantine, shich were published as the Codex Theodosianus.

Theodosius died in 450 after a fall from a horse.

Boo-hoo, poor me!

It seems that years of smoking and of living however I please has had a price. Not yet clear is just how high a price, but the next time I'm striking back.

Æ30, Perga in Pamphylia, Gallienus, Lindgren & Kovacs 1141

AVT KAI Λ_I ΓAΛΛIHNO CEB, Laureate draped cuirassed bust right, I before | ΠEP_ΓAI_ΩN, Chest with three purses.

I have a number of similar coins from this city in different sizes, different dress, and depicting both Gallienus and his wife.

This design, showing the prizes that will be awarded for some contest, presumably, seems to be readily available, I often see others for sale, but, unless I saw an example very different from those I already have, I've no interest in purchase of additional examples that show, for instance, varying numbers of decorative pellets on the panels of the chest.

But back to the hospital tomorrowTuesday, I suspect.

An impending change to new blogger code may do some violence to the formatting.
